I have been working on two main researches. One is main memory database system. The other is to design a new I/O architecture for DBMS to achieve high-speed query processing with Solid-State Drive (SSD).
The first research, main memory database system, is motivated by the current architecture trends that allow huge main memory space.It is fairly clear that many databases will completely reside in main memory or most of the working set of databases will be main-memory resident. So, through this research, we will revisit the 4 decade old DBMS internals based on disk IO architecture and design a new DBMS based on main-memory databases.
The second research is to design new DBMS internals that utilize the advantage of SSD. To save expensive I/O costs, we redesign the I/O architecture for DBMS that allows SSD to process some parts of queries in advance. We expect that this new DBMS architecture significantly improves query processing speed by saving I/Os between main memory and SSD.
